The approval of the Akama plan

Under the present government the approval of the Akama plan

The aim is for the final local plan of Akamas to be approved and published before the end of the current government's term, said today the Minister of the Environment, Kostas Kadis.

Speaking in the morning on state radio, he said that the Urban Planning Council will proceed on the basis of the legislation and procedures that govern its operation, in finalizing the local plan.

Afterwards, he added, the local plan will be resubmitted to the Department of the Environment to examine whether it is compatible with the conditions it had set in the previous opinion and subsequently, it will be approved by the Council of Ministers and published.

Mr. Kadis had a meeting yesterday with the Minister of the Interior, Nikos Nouris, with whom they also discussed the compensatory measures that will be given to the residents of the area who will lose their development rights.

It is recalled that during the session of the Council of Ministers last week, it was decided that the final local plan be published at the same time as the compensatory measures that will be adopted for those landowners in the area who lose their development rights.

In this way, according to what the Minister of the Interior Nikos Nouris said, any legal problems that may arise in the event that the local plan is published first and then any compensatory measures will be avoided.

However, the government is under pressure in relation to the final Akama local plan, given the environmental conditions with which the plan must comply and the requirements put forward by the community leaders of the region.
