Historically, the highest prices of construction materials

Construction materials price index rose by 17% in 2022

The prices of construction materials reached the highest, historically, level in 2022, surpassing the previous record recorded in 2021, while for the month of December alone, prices recorded an annual increase of more than 11%.

During 2022 the price increases of construction materials rose, on an annual basis, from 22.92% in the case of construction steel up to 45.41% for PVC doors and windows.

Specifically, according to the data of the Statistical Service, the Construction Materials Price Index for December 2022 amounted to 133.62 units (based on 2015=100), marking a decrease of 0.24% compared to the previous month and an increase of 11.67% compared to the corresponding month of 2021.

By main product category, increases were recorded only in December 2022 in minerals (13.43%), mineral products (12.18%), wood, insulation, chemical and plastic products (11.57%), metal products (11.21%) and in electromechanical items (10.25%).

Besides, for the period January-December 2022, the index recorded an increase of 17.21% compared to the corresponding period of 2021.

This increase in the index in 2022 compared to the previous year is mainly due, according to the Statistical Service, to the price increases of the following materials: PVC doors and windows (45.41%), bricks (30.08%) , paving asphalt (29.24%), plastic pipes (28.51%), structural mesh (28.12%), building iron (27.74%), iron railings (26.40%), doors and windows from aluminum (25.25%), roofing/carports and metal fixings for plasterboard and cement board (23.55%) and structural steel (22.92%).
