Reassured has identified the 10 best and most affordable countries to live in retirement, taking into account factors such as cost of living, cost of transport and standard of living indicator.

Greece is the best country to retire, thanks to a large number of long days in the sun, a life expectancy of 81 years and affordable public transport tickets, while Cyprus is in 7th place. Portugal came in second, Malta in third, Italy in fourth place and Spain in fifth. Also in the top 10 were Cuba, Japan, Albania and Puerto Rico.

Life insurance broker Reassured analysed six key factors that most people consider when considering moving abroad to identify the most affordable countries for retirement in 2023, using weighted measures of cost of living, cost of housing, cost of transport, annual sunny day, life expectancy and total population over 65.
