The Municipality of Nicosia, in collaboration with the CYENS Center of Excellence, hosted high-ranking representatives from China, as part of the forum "China and Cyprus: Working together for a Common Future", organized by the Chinese Embassy in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the European University.
According to an announcement by the Nicosia Municipality, the forum, which takes place in Nicosia, focuses on three main thematic discussions: "Mutual Learning between Cultures", "Digital Transformation" and "Green Development".
The Deputy Mayor of Nicosia, Chrysanthos Fakas, welcomed the event, underlining the importance of cooperation between Cyprus and China for the promotion of technology, culture and sustainable development.
Dr. Styliani Petroudi, Head of Innovation of the CYENS Center of Excellence, presented the role of CYENS as a central hub for research and innovation in the region.
The event was also attended by Xu Ming, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing People's Congress, the Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, Zhu Yinliang, who represented the Chinese Embassy, and Nicosia City Councilor Mikaela Kythreoti Mhlapa.
Participants had the opportunity to tour the CYENS Center of Excellence 'WIP – Work in Progress' exhibition, where innovative works by artists hosted in this exhibition were presented, highlighting creativity and research in art and technology.
The visit was attended by representatives of businesses, universities and local authorities from sister cities of China and cities of Cyprus, thus strengthening transnational ties and cooperation between the two countries.
The representatives from the twin cities of Qingdao and Fuzhou, with which Nicosia is twinned, had the opportunity to participate in activities, while discovering the rich history and culture of Nicosia, and seeking new partnerships that will strengthen their relationship in the future.
