Eurostat: Lower housing costs in the villages of Cyprus
Housing cost overload in the rural areas of Cyprus was at the lowest level in the EU in 2021, as shown by data published by Eurostat.
According to the data, housing cost overburden in Cypriot rural areas in 2021 stood at 1.3%, the lowest rate in the EU. The EU average was 6.2%.
Housing cost overburden in urban areas for 2021 was 3.5%, while the EU average was 10.4%.
The greatest overload of housing costs in urban areas occurred in Greece with a percentage of 32.4%, Denmark (21.9%) and the Netherlands (15.3%). On the other hand, the lowest rate of housing cost overload was recorded in Lithuania (1.6%), Malta (2.9%) and Hungary (3.1%) in 2021.
Rural areas in Greece recorded the highest housing cost overload at 22.0%, followed by Bulgaria (13.3%) and Romania (10.8%).
The countries following Cyprus with the lowest housing cost overload were Ireland (1.6%) and Hungary (2.2%).
